JM XO 45°: Description and customer reviews

JM XO is a very old agricultural rum crafted at the foot of Mount Pelée, aged for a minimum of six years in oak casks previously used for maturing bourbon. The aromatic concentration acquired over these long years makes this a perfect rum for tasting, preferably as a digestif.

JM XO won two gold medals in 2011 and 2012 at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

Laurent's tasting notes

Its color is a warm gold tending to amber.

On the nose, it's well done and engaging. Vanilla, dried fruit (raisin and prune) and butterscotch add deliciousness. Wood (dry), citrus (orange zest), spices (pepper) and a touch of white flowers bring complexity and relief. The alcohol seems to be at the perfect level in this rum, further accentuating the impression of balance. After a little rest, tobacco notes appear.

On the palate, the attack is relatively soft (without being sweet), then the alcohol appears, but without excess. Citrus fruit, dried fruit, wood and vanilla take center stage on a palate less complex than the nose.

The finish is long and dominated by the wood, still dry and very slightly bitter. It still leaves a warm impression, although the barrel takes up more and more space until it crowds out the other aromas, which were already struggling to make themselves felt on this finish.

If you like it, we recommend :

  • A Martinique with the typical woodiness of the Habitation Saint Etienne distillery, more tannic.
  • A gourmet rum with roasted, cocoa notes and sweet spices.
  • Sweet and fruity, a lovely blend of 10 vintage rums selected by Daniel Baudin.
