Kill Devil Guyana Uitvlugt 16 ans pot still a été distillé avec le double alambic de type pot still, transféré à la fin des années 1990 vers l’immense distillerie Diamond depuis la distillerie Uitvlugt (prononcer « aot-floute », du nom du village situé à l’embouchure de la rivière Demerara et qui accueillait la distillerie désormais fermée).
Cet alambic en bois a la particularité de réaliser des distillats des plus aromatiques, aux accents floraux et fruités.
This rum was distilled in 1999, then aged in a single barrel for 16 years before being bottled without reduction.
Seules 370 bouteilles ont été réalisées à partir de ce « single cask ».
Nico's tasting notes
In brief: fresh - smoky - moderately peaty - fruit - sweet spices - wood - animal
On the nose, the rum is quick to give us plenty of freshness. Behind this refreshing curtain lies a slightly industrial register of metal, smoke and solvent. Fruit makes its way through, fresh or even watery.
Aeration confirms the slightly hard, metallic notes, but these are always well surrounded, this time by spices, especially pepper and nutmeg. Finally, the fruit joins with the wood to clearly evoke whisky.
On the palate, the nod to whisky is very strong. There are even some frankly smoky, almost peaty notes, as well as heavier aromas of smoked meat and leather. There's a hint of spice on the mid-palate, but the texture remains soft.
The finish is long, with a hint of agave joining the whisky. It's the smokiness that provides the intermediary.
