This Montebello rum aged for 8 years in oak barrels before being reduced to 42° and bottled.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose of this rum is immediately very rich and pastry-like. It's typically Guadeloupean, with a resinous and vegetal character that adds an extra touch of class. The oak is precious and refined, mingling with raisins and the vinous notes of a sweet white wine. The rum continues to gain complexity while maintaining its balance; it's very pleasant. It then becomes even more indulgent with almond paste and amaretto, not forgetting the sweet aroma of sugarcane juice characteristic of a white rhum agricole.
The olive note emerges with aeration, enriching the overall impression. It's captivating, and at times you might even wonder if the aromas are becoming overwhelming, so "heavy" is this rum. Stewed fruit is perceptible even when the nose is far from the glass, along with the ensuing family of pastry aromas. But upon closer inspection, something more complex emerges: more floral and subtly fruity, with a waxy woodiness and hints of nuts.

On the palate, back to the heart of the matter, with cane and a crescendo of heat, albeit restrained. The woodiness builds at the same time, with spices and dried fruit in its wake. The mid-palate is full and thick, with the pastry side of dried raisins and stewed fruits including apple and apricot. The whole remains finely woody and spicy, which once again ensures that it doesn't cross the line into gluttony.

The finish is as rich as ever, with plump prunes and cooked banana.

"This rum is a very fine example of what Guadeloupe can offer in terms of controlled generosity..."
