Nico's tasting notes
This rum's nose hooks the nostrils with a sweet yet frank vegetal quality, like brambles or rosebushes after rain. The undergrowth and forest are inhabited by damp wood, and one feels a need to dry the rum. And that's exactly what's going to happen, as the wood becomes increasingly toasty, releasing a few vanilla aromas in the process. The charcoal dust is then tinged with coffee and zan.
Aeration has finished drying the wood, which is definitely well toasted. It opens on vanilla, caramel, honey and tobacco, with some sweet nuts.
The palate is both dry and sweet, followed by a return of soaked wood. Nuts are pleasant, slightly oily and caramelized. The vanilla then evokes a less moist wood, but tender and melted. The strength of the alcohol returns, with pungent spices that leave a dry, astringent impression.
The finish returns to nuts, tobacco, white wood and vanilla, with orange zest as a last-minute guest.
