Tiki Lovers Dark Rum is an English-style rum composed of Jamaican pot still rum aged 3-5 years, Barbados rum aged 2-3 years, and a small amount of a blend of column-distilled white rums from Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago.
This is a rum that can be drunk neat or used as a base for premium cocktails.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose immediately gets to the heart of the matter, with a hint of strawberry bubble gum (or is it banana?). This intensity is carried by spices that seem to have been steeped in a piping hot infusion. It packs a punch, almost reminiscent of a spiced rum. Vanilla and sugar are abundant, coating the nose and serving as a launchpad for the bouquet of diverse spices that burst forth from all directions. For example, and in no particular order: cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves…
The slightly candy-like fruitiness returns when you swirl the rum around the edge of the glass. Spices, sugar, and vanilla quickly frame this burst of flavor. You can tell that the full exoticism of the Jamaican rum in the blend has been contained. Only its slightly vegetal and medicinal character remains. In short, and for lovers of Jamaican rum, this is a light spiced Hampden.
On the palate, the attack is dry and, this time, much more reminiscent of Jamaica. In the end, we didn't contain the beast for long. The taste buds are seized by a surge of ripe exotic fruit and a dry, slightly metallic woodiness. Then the very spicy character of the rum takes over, with the fragrant bark of tropical woods.
The finish is fragrant and persistent, with hints of strawberry and exotic stewed fruit.
