Maja is a brand of rum from El Salvador, a tiny Central American country whose volcanic soil is ideal for growing sugar cane.

Three countries separate El Salvador, where Maja rum is made, and Panama, the adopted home of Don Pancho Fernandez, the master blender who brought all his experience to the creation of Maja rum.
Don Pancho Fernandez is a prominent figure in the world of "Ron," the Spanish-style rum. He trained in Cuba before joining the renowned Varela distillery in the early 1990s, and later revived the Las Cabras distillery, also in Panama. Read less
