Don Papa Classic 40°: Description and customer reviews

A traditional rum distilled and aged in oak barrels at the foot of Mount Kanlaon, Don Papa is appreciated for its fruity character.

Don Papa is a fairly common gateway to the world of rum thanks to its sweet and delicious aromas .

This particular rum which reveals the richness of the terroir of the island of Negros Occidental received the prize for best product Cocktail & Spirit 2013 in 2013. That same year, it also won two gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose of this vanilla rum is very flattering: vanilla, then, but also banana and a strawberry/bubblegum side that reminds us of a harlequin candy. But this nose is mainly dominated by orange in all its forms: juice, zest and jam.
After aeration, the candied fruits come into play, always with an orange/tangerine side. After the candy, we now think of a spiced marmalade, or even a mulled wine or even a sangria.
There is also a bit of caramelized candy candy candy.

In the mouth the orange still dominates with a little bitterness, more on the zest. This develops into a sort of exotic and tangy tutti frutti, with passion fruit at the forefront. The sensation is very thick on the palate.

It's a candied register that remains in the mouth, with again a slightly burnt sugar.

If you like it, we recommend :

  • A very popular Venezuelan rum, marked above all by caramel...
  • A different Don Papa, released at the end of 2020, which returns to a rum appellation...
  • Also very sweet, but in the English tradition, with slightly heavier aromas...
  • In small format of 20 centiliters...
